Trekco Walk Difficulty Ratings

Some are worried about whether they’ll keep up, others want a serious challenge. We will adapt each walk to everyone, but here’s a rough guide to what to expect from walks. Every walk is hosted by a qualified leader who will usually hold the Mountain Leader award or Mountaineering & Climbing Instructor award, and they will always be First Aid qualified.

The Grades

1-A walk in the park! (Not literally)

These activities will mostly, if not entirely, take place on well maintained paths, with a leisurely pace and plenty of breaks. Take in brilliant sights, nature and more as you experience a lovely day out without exhausting yourself in the process. These days act as a fantastic gateway into the great outdoors and our other activities.

2- Leave the tarmac behind.

You're ready to take some braver bolder steps into the outdoors. Getting away from the city, these trips are an opportunity to get a short taste of the wilder side of life. Some walking boots with ankle support or even some wellies on wet days are recommended/required.

3- Take on some inclines.

The summit may or may not be the main goal for the day or simply part of the journey. You should expect some gradual ascent, however this will be tackled in time, with plenty of breaks for coffee and conversation along the way.

4- A challenge

The fitness to be able to do an occasional long walk or run a few miles will do.

A lengthier outing where you can expect the experience to last a full day. Expect to walk around 5-8 hours. Teams will stop for a lunch and to enjoy the views but the ability to keep moving will help you get the most out of the day.

5- Serious stuff

If longer walks or regular short runs are part of your lifestyle, you're ready for some of our most serious adventures .

A good base level of fitness is essential for these outings, running 5Kms with minimal/no stopping is a useful gauge. These days can be lengthy and taking on some of the highest peaks in England, so you can expect some prolonged climbing. See how far your boots can take you on a selection of the best and most challenging walking routes this country has to offer.

These days are likely to involve:

*Occasional technical elements, which will mean your hands will need to do more than hold the camera.
